Dans « Habitat, un séjour à titre temporaire » Vansteenkiste nous dévoile sa structure interne, son espace de réflexion, son espace mental, son habitat. Aux éléments architecturaux se mêlent des références cinématographiques, des dessins, des effets personnels, des récits, des images, des maquettes et des installations anciennes et plus récentes de l’artiste. C’est l’approche suivie par l’artiste pour exploiter – physiquement et psychologiquement – nos expériences de l’espace. « Espaces mentaux », telle est l’expression qui décrit le mieux son approche. L’espace de réflexion est un concept emprunté à la philosophie et à l’architecture. L’idée est d’ériger des murs « à partir » du chaos (ou pour sortir du chaos) du vécu, des émotions, des pensées… afin d’y voir plus clair ou de mieux les gérer. En un mot pour les structurer.
